Edward Joseph Linsell - Died: 31/05/1916 in the Battle of Jutland - Age 17

 

Boy 1st Class: Service No.: J/34116. H.M.S. Indefatigable.

 

Son of Mr J Linsell and Mrs. A. M. Linsell, of 12 Garden Terrace, Old Harlow, Essex.

H.M.S. Indefatigable was a Battle Cruiser of the Royal Navy and the lead ship of her class.

She was sunk on 31st May 1916 during the Battle of Jutland, the largest naval battle of the war.

Shells from the German Battle Cruiser SMS Von der Tann caused an explosion ripping a hole in her hull.

A second explosion hurled large pieces of the ship 200 feet in the air.

Only two of the crew of 1,019 survived.
